Curtis KLU LT7033 Factory Reset

So we got this new 7" tablet made by Curtis (is the Curtis Mathis of old?) and my son decided to secure it with a password so nobody could get into it. He was successful, cause nobody and I mean nobody not even him can get into it. My job as dad the Hero was to figure out how to fix the dilemma. Being quite the certifiable computer geek I thought "Well, Factory Reset, Right?". However it was quite tedious to find any official website on this product and any clear instruction on how to "factory reset" this device. I had resolved that the only option was to return the device to the store. Before doing so I managed to at least make things worse. I managed somehow to hit the wrong keystrokes to "fix" this tablet so it was not just locked out with no password to be found, but I managed to make it so when you turned it on this awesome little green droid robot would come for a second then fall over with a red triangle with and exclamation point coming out of his body. The device would lock up and stay like that till I hit the reset button on the back and then it would boot up again with the same error. I broke the news to the boy that his new toy was rendered useless he blamed his self of course and in doing so broke this Dad's heart. After much dismay and a lot of heartache this story does have a happy ending. I finally figured out the correct key sequence necessary to get the devise to reset to factory. Apparently you have to power it on and when the Klu splash screen comes you press and hold down power and Volume up at the same time and then the "bios" like screen comes up with the factory reset option as well as a few other options. We did the factory reset since we really only had the item for about a day when this issue occurred. Hopefully if you find this blog and don't have to go through the headaches we did. - TechGuy74

  1. Can't get this to work. Do I do this? 1. Power on 2. Repress POWER and Volume + (not -) and continue to hold? or do I hold and let it go right away? When I try to hit power / Vol+ the screen goes black after a few seconds...

    1. For this model it has an actual reset button on the back of the device literally right by the power button you can use a paper clip to push and hold the button in for about three seconds

  3. I was having a hard time at first also.

Hold Down the Power + Volume Up at the same time
(That means when you are turning the device on do this at this
time.) Tips: Do not press power once then try the key combo, press the power and volume to turn the device on and it will enter you into the Kernal mode for factory reset.

Once complete screen will prompt you at the Andriod Kernal press
the power button once to enter the options mode.

  5. Factory reset on a Curtis Klu LT7035-J:

    1) Turn device completely off

    2) While holding in the 'volume down' button, press and hold the power button until you see the Klu logo at which point you will release the power button while continuing to hold in the 'volume down' button.

    3) After a few seconds you will see an android laying on his back. At this point, press the power button and 'volume up' button at the same time. This will bring up a menu. I'm sure you can figure it out from this point.

      1. Make sure tablet is off.
      2. Press and hold the "Volume Down" key and 'Power' key
      3. When "Klu by Curtis" splash screen shows release the power key
      4. A laying down android with cover open and a red triangle with an exclamation point will appear.
      5. Rock the 'Volume Down' and 'Volume Up' and press the 'Power' keys to dislplay the BIOS screen.
      6. Use the 'Volume Up/Down' keys to navigate choices (wipe data/factory reset) and the 'Power' key to select the choice.
      7. The following screen will ask you to confirm your choice and warn you that this cannot be undone. Repeate step 6 to select your choice.
      8. When wiping all data is complete, select 'reboot system now' to restart tablet.
      Done!

    2. What is a klu splash sxreen

      Delete
    3. A lot of companies create a "splash screen" for their products. Think of it like a giant billboard to advertise their name. For example a lot of computer manufacturers like Dell and HP will show a splash screen when windows starts that says Dell or HP right before windows starts and if you hit like F2 or Delete while the computer starts up it will stop the screen from launching and go into the bios or might just show the hard drive, CD-ROM and other information loading.

The same concept applies here the Curtis Klu has a nice little splash screen that loads up as soon as you turn it on it says "Curtis Klu" in a light blue color. This is what I waited for and when I saw the splash screen I held down volume up and Power at the same time till the "bios" like screen came up and there were few options for factory reset.

    Then I got frustrated.

Then I found that I could push both up and down volume at the same time.

Got back to the laying down android.

Out of exhaustion rocked the volume back and forth while pushing the power button.

Miraculously got the screen and was able to reset.

And it saved my daughters pictures.

  17. All this button pressing is silly.
On the LT7035-J -aka the MID704- simply go to settings, the last entry under Personal is for the factory reset.
Touch that, it'll prompt you to make sure, and ask a second time about erasing all accounts and data.
Then it'll reboot twice, and poof! It comes up with the intro lesson you saw the first time you powered up.
I just did it some 90 seconds ago, to take mine back to HHGreg.
(The Polaroid branded one from Big Lots has a far better screen and better performance.

    1. Yea thats great if your tablet boots. If it does not... you have to force it into recovery to do a factory reset

      Delete
  18. TO: DWS:

It is obvious you are not an IT technologist but simply an User.

There is nothing silly about accessing the Android system recovery menu.

One needs to access the Android system recovery menu for much more than a simple factory reset.

For example, rooting, external system upgrades, much ADB Android DeBug Bridge work, modding, and a whole host of other functions need access to Android system recovery menu on any and every Android tablet.

Android developers simply create a GUI alias within Settings to make a factory reset on Android tablets simple for non-technologists like yourself.

If you understand ClockWorkMod, modding, system images, flashing, and a whole host of other high end high technology Android "hacking" functions, then you would understand the need to learn all this "silly button pressing".

Also, the Polaroid tablet is more expensive than the Curtis Klü. I would hope you get better features for more money.

I posted my Android system recovery menu key combination access because I couldn't find anywhere on the WWW where anyone had documented it.

Hopefully I have helped not only people with the LT7035-J but also people with the LT7033x.

When it powers up, release the power up button, while continuing to hold down the volume up button. The screen will come up with instructions, after the usual klu beginning, then release the volume up button and follow the instructions on the top of the screen. :-)

    1. Is it possible the screen was damaged in some way? Crushed or got wet?

      Delete
    2. Amanda...and everyone:

That white fuzz and those white lines mean one thing. You have tried to push the power cord too hard and too far into the power port on the tablet.

All of these tablets are made in China by just a few manufacturers. All these different tablet companies simply have their engineers draw up specifications and the blueprints for the tablets and then take these blueprints to the few manufacturers in China that physically actually make the tablets. Most of these tablets use the same cheap parts. Most of these cheap Android tablets have all had problems with the power port.

You cannot try and shove the power cord into the power port all the way. It simply will not go in that far. Most people who buy these cheap Android tablets don't know this and permanently damage their tablet by forcing the power cord into the power port much harder and farther than it should be.

If you are on the cusp of damaging the power port by pushing the power cord into the power port too hard and too far, but you possibly have not damaged the port yet, that white fuzz and those white lines are your warning(s). The tablet gets confused because you are pushing too hard and too far in and it returns that garbage to the screen.

You should immediately pull the power cord out. Reinsert the power cord VERY GENTLY only until you feel a gentle resistance like it won't go in any farther. Leave it there. It will charge fine. You do NOT have to push that power cord stem all the way in.

In your case, Amanda, I believe the reason your tablet will not power on is because it is not charged. It is not charged because you did not properly insert the power cord. Again, every time you insert the power cord, ONLY gently insert the power cord stem until you feel a gentle resistance. When you feel that gentle resistance, do not try and force the power cord in any farther.

Internally, inside the tablet, if you DO force the power cord in, you will simply rip the power port right out of its solder and rip it right off the motherboard. Then the tablet WILL be junk...unless you know somebody like me who can and knows how to do component-level soldering of PCB printed circuit board components.

Amanda, reinsert the power cord gently until you feel resistance, charge the tablet, then continue your troubleshooting.

      Which, by the by...

You also did not give ANY information RE: your tablet. Information would help...think before you post. No one can help anyone else unless the "helpee" provides the helper with AS MUCH INFORMATION about the problem as possible. In other words, re-read, proofread, and edit your posts BEFORE you hit the SUBMIT button. Otherwise, you are wasting everyones' time...including your own.

  25. So after reading all these posts and trying several different ways..my sons friend just happened to lock herself out tonight.

So here goes...for a LT 7033..guaranteed to work!

    While unit is off..

Press the volume up button down and hold
Then press the power button and hold

This will take you straight to your Droid screen with red triangle.
    Once he pops up...
    Let go of both buttons.

Then push volume up and power simotaneusly (together) at the same time quickly and let go.

Doing that should take you right to the system recovery screen.

Make your choices by using volume up or down
Then use the power button to select.

Most recovery efforts don't change anything, better off just wiping it clean and starting over.

Like I said I just did this, don't make it harder than it needs to be :)

The reset button or pin button is for simply reseting your tablet if it locks up on you. The "factory reset" is what you need to due if you don't know the password.

Bad download, corrupt files, buggy software player, etc. When you have no more space left on your drive, the file will look like it downloaded fine but it will be corrupt/incomplete. 1. Unfortunately this model is only equipped with 4 GB of flash memory (Built In) which can be insufficient these days with all the video and photos presented within Facebook. However luckily for us the Curtis Klu LT1041 is also capable of supporting a 32 GB Micro SD Card which you should be able acquire fairly cheaply and increase the capacity of the device 8 fold.

A factory reset might be in order if you don't have a lot of data to be retained and after doing so look into a Micro SD card to expand storage capacity.

  54. Thank you for responding, does it have to be reset before I use the card? I am unsure how to do that, hopefully I don`t have to do this, I have very little data except for what I have on gmail, not much history at all.I owned a Samsung for years and bought this as a backup until I could afford another Samsung, the others LCD melted,? This is what I was told anyway. Can u please let me know if I have to reset , TY again.

    1. You may not need to reset but from the things you mentioned it seems like you don't have to much on it anyway. Your facebook and Mail accounts are not dependent on the device just accessible. A Micro SD memory card will go a long way in given you more space. It will allow you to store more apps by using the SD card which can free up space on the device and make it run better.

  57. I have a klu by Curtis as well, but my model is LT7033E. My sister gave it to me to try and fix it because she forgot the password she had entered. I was hoping someone could help me factory reset since it looks like you'll know a lot more than me
